Course Content

The course is for those who wish to understand a Biblical method of counselling and pastoral care, and to begin to develop their listening skills. By the end of the course we hope that participants will be able to:

  • Define a Christian model of counselling based upon the work of Larry Crabb (exploring the spiritual, rational, volitional, emotional and physical aspects of the person and their issues);
  • Use the skills of attending, active listening, empathy, questioning and summary;
  • Discuss the importance of both confidentiality and the particular qualities of an effective counsellor;
  • Outline Erikson's theory of human development stages 1 & 2.
  • Give a basic definition of relational style;
  • Explore their own reactions to the course material and develop general self-awareness.

Additional Work

Course participants will be required to produce written assignments.
These assignments are expected to be completed between sessions as well as after the end of the course.

NB: Please note that 100% attendance is required in order to receive the course certificate.
